More than 40 Northwoods churches are working hard to make the mission of Habitat, to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action, a reality. Local churches play an important role in supporting the Habitat mission in many ways. In July, 2003, the Ely Memorial Church in Land O’Lakes hosted a Brian Sirchio Concert and donated $800.00. The Community Church of Boulder and Trinity Lutheran have also held Habitat fundraisers. The Church in the Pines builds sheds and donates them to each Habitat family. Dick Banks of the Community United Church of Christ acted as the family friend for the Mayo family, the seventh Habitat family. Want Your Church to Help? There are many ways for churches to be involved with Habitat and we know these ways deserve and require discussion by your church groups. Every congregation is different and will want to work as a partner in their own way. Do you know someone in your church: who might want to act as a family friend for a new partner family? who could act as the volunteer recruiter for a build in your area? who could act as the construction supervisor for a build in your area? who could lead the fund raising efforts? who could manage a 2 x 4 signing, a special offering or a Habitat fundraiser? Please also think about people you know who might want to be a Habitat partner family because we are always looking for families. It would be wonderful if we could build a home in each Northwoods town with the local churches and partner family.
