Churches Are Habitat Partners

More than 40 Northwoods churches are working hard to make the mission of Habitat, to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action, a reality.

Local churches play an important role in supporting the Habitat mission in many ways. In July, 2003 the Ely Memorial Church in Land O’Lakes hosted a Brian Sirchio Concert and donated $800.00. The Community Church of Boulder, and Trinity Lutheran also held Habitat fundraisers this summer. The Church in the Pines builds sheds and donates them to each Habitat family. Dick Banks of the Community United Church of Christ acted as the family friend for the Mayo family-----the seventh Habitat family.

This beautiful queen-sized quilt was presented to Habitat Partner Family Number Ten----Kira Oas---as a loving gift from a Habitat Angel communicant of the United Church of Christ in Phelps. This church and Ely Memorial Church ---both pastored by Ann Wahlers---are active partners with Habitat for Humanity Northwoods Wisconsin. Members pound nails---install electricity--mastermind fundraisers---and support families. This is the second "love quilt" gift to a Habitat Partner family. The first was presented to Carol Justice when her home was dedicated in December 2004
Could you please do us a favor at your church?
There are many ways for churches to be involved with Habitat and we know these ways deserve and require discussion by your church groups. Many churches have already expressed their interest in knowing of specific ways to help Habitat. Every congregation is different and will want to work as a partner in a different way.

Think about your church family ...
Do you know someone in your church:
who might want to act as a family friend for a new partner family?
who could act as the volunteer recruiter for a build in your area?
who could act as the construction supervisor for a build in your area?
who could lead the fund raising efforts?
who could manage a 2 x 4 signing? a special offering? A Habitat fundraiser?

Habitat asks all churches to continue to think about those they know who might want to be Habitat partner families. We continue to look for families. How wonderful it would be if we could build a home in each Northwoods town with the churches of that area working together with the new partner family. Talk about faith in action!!!!!!
