Habitat Happenings…
By President Jim Klaric
We want to thank all of the volunteers who help Habitat for Humanity Northwoods continue to make it possible to build decent, affordable housing for those in need. None of our accomplishments would be possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers who generously give of their time, their talent and their monetary donations. We have also had many generous donations and assistance from numerous community groups, churches, as well as corporations.
In 2008 we saw the completion and dedication of our 14th home in Newbold, and our 15th home in Eagle River. Our next “partner family” has been selected for Home #16, which will begin construction in early 2009, and will be built in Minocqua.
We like to say that at Habitat we provide a “hand up…not a handout.” Each adult member of our partner families must complete 250 hours of “sweat equity” as well as pay back an interest free mortgage to Habitat. It’s these mortgage payments, coupled with the generous donations we received from the public, that allow Habitat to continue to build homes and carry on our mission.
While we have had a very productive and successful year, we still have much work to do. We appreciate your support and hope that you will continue to help us out in any way that you can. When we work together, we can do great things.
If you are interested in donating to Habitat, in volunteering on a build, would like to get involved with one of our committees or would like to organize a fundraiser or “work team” at your church, company or community organization, please contact our office at 715-356-7203. We’ll be glad to get you in touch with one of our current volunteers and get you started.

15th House Dedicated in Eagle River

Dan Siewert, President-Elect of HFHN hands new homeowner, Joe Kuczala, the key to his new house.

Habitat for Humanity Northwoods Wisconsin dedicated its 15th home in Eagle River on Saturday, August 30, 2008, Joe and his daughter Velicity Kuczala moved into their new three bedroom one bath home. As a requirement for Habitat, Joe put in over 250 volunteer hours, most of them working on his own house. Habitat for Humanity Northwoods worked with Energy Star to make this home as energy efficient as possible. Many volunteers helped out on this build, and without their assistance, this home would not be possible.

Pastor Jerry Check, HFHN Church Relations Committee Chair, provided a few words of inspiration before presenting Joe with a bible.
